On Monday July 3rd Sponne School had an unprecedented 12 students qualify for the County Schools Athletics Championships.
For the boys, Jayden White threw a personal best of 7m 68 cm in the shot for 6th place. We then had 3 other boys who finished in 5th position – Elliot Woodward in the hurdles 13.4 sec, Joel Anker in the 1500m 5mins 24 and Liam Cowley in the 800m 2mins 33. Joe Dolan went one better in the long jump finishing in 4 th with an impressive 4 m 24 cm. Pride of place went to Nathan Trim in the 200m, however. Nathan was up against some very strong opposition but held off all challengers to win in an outstanding tome of 27.1 secs.
For the girls Danica Thiyagarasa achieved 1 m 20 cm in the high jump for 5th place whilst Skye Roberts threw 6 m 42 cm for 7th place in the shot. There were an incredible 3 silver medal winning performances as Emily Hinton (800m), Hazel Middleton (discus) and Maddie Pritchett (javelin) all achieved personal best performances. The outstanding performance from the girls came from Poppy Waldron, however, who won the 100m crown winning with yet another outstanding performance of 13.5 secs.
All athletes should be truly proud of their achievements with many hours of dedicated training enabling them to achieve so highly.
