A wonderful afternoon of cricket where over 80 year 5&6’s came to Sponne to play in a kwik cricket competition. 10 teams of 8 players step out into the sunshine to take up the battle at the crease. The willow struck leather (well plastic struck rubber!!) and wickets fell, children ran, clapped, cheered and laughed. There were some spectacular skills on display from such youngster, skills even Freddie Flintoff would have been proud of...we only lost 7 balls in the rough (and possibly over the fence!!)
As always our Sponne leaders did a superb job coaching, encouraging, umpiring and scoring, and after 6 hours of setting up and leading (and being a rather more sun-kissed than when they started ) lots of them rushed off to play their own matched of cricket and rugby. Fantastic effort lads – well done!
The final results were that Greens Norton were the winners and therefore have qualified for the next round as Cluster winners at Kislingbury Cricket Club in a few weeks. Towcester Primary were a very close runners up...it had to go on runs made!
Well done to everyone involved and here’s to the next event – Rounders, Monday 25 June!
