Wellbeing

Young people can be faced with different problems and pressures as they get older. The issues they face may not be the same as those their parents faced at their age. We can’t pretend these things are not happening and neither can they. We need to keep communication open about the risks they may be taking and the pressure they may feel under. By working together we can help young people to focus on their future goals, stay positive and keep on track to make the most of their future.

At Sponne, the curriculum comprises of a range of topics including sex education, drugs and alcohol, online safety and healthy living set appropriately for each year group. We recognise that students may also need additional support to help their emotional well-being, behaviour and learning. The additional support in school includes:

Sponne School’s Commitment to Young Carers
Sponne School is committed to meeting the needs of young carers so that they can attend and enjoy school in the same way as other students and achieve their potential. We have a designated Young Carers’ School Lead, Miss E Harris, with responsibility for young carers and their families.

The school has a referral system in place which allows students and families to self-identify, feeder schools to inform Sponne School of young carers during transitions and staff at school to report any concerns. Sponne School has a strong partnership in place with the local young carers’ service and other external agencies.
