SLA members join us for a comprehensive, two-part training event designed for SENCOs.

Session 1: SEND Law Refresher 12:00 – 2:00 PM Facilitator: Thomas Emmett, Birkett Long Solicitors
This legal update will provide a practical refresher on key areas of SEND law, including:
- SEND Admissions
- EHCP and non-EHCP placements,
- Consultations and directions
- Parental consent
- Requests for Statutory Assessments
- Section 19 Duty
- Non-attendance due to mental health needs
- Permanent Exclusions of SEND pupils
- SEND funding
- Q&A session – Participants are encouraged to submit questions in advance
Session 2: Identifying and Supporting SEMH Needs in Schools 2:15 – 4:00 PM Facilitator: Hayley Singlehurst-Mooney The CE Academy
The training will explore:
- What SEMH needs are and how they can present in learners
- The possible causes and underlying factors contributing to SEMH issues
- How to assess SEMH needs effectively within an educational context
- Strategies and approaches schools can use to provide appropriate support
- The range of professionals and services available to assist schools
