Overview:

For Heads, Senior school Leaders, Attendance Champions and Attendance Officers. Training is to understanding the barriers to improving school attendance.

The training is divided into 6 sections, national context, focus on expectations, examining the perceived barriers, the role of data, working with parents and putting together a toolkit.

Focus:

  • Examine the principles and ethos of the new statutory guidance governing attendance and absence
  • Understand the rationale behind the changes and what this means for your practice
  • Increase your knowledge about what works documented in the latest research
  • Breaking down the barriers both in and out of school
  • Lunch is included

Session Outcomes:

  • Secure knowledge and understanding of statutory responsibilities and changes
  • Understanding the role of your setting in attendance improvement
  • Understand that factors both in and out of school and consider strategies to address these
  • Deeper knowledge of your data to inform effective practice
  • Embracing the research telling us how to support parents and children best to improve attendance
  • Colleagues feeling empowered and well-resourced to address and overcome barriers

Overview:

The Behaviour Whisperer Author defuses tricky situations with discreet words & almost imperceptible gestures. To extract work from the most reticent students. In this interactive online two session training, with QA segments.

Offering practical, evidence-informed strategies to improve classroom behaviour for Class Teachers, Cover Supervisors and TA's.

Session 1: Effective verbal communication for classroom behaviour

  • Understand some key principles of the psychology of classroom behaviour
  • Be able to manage a range of common behaviour scenarios
  • Improve verbal communication with students

Session 2: Effective non-verbal communication and managing challenging students and classes

  • Consider key aspects of non-verbal communication in the classroom
  • Address specific classroom behaviour issues from your context
  • Improve non-verbal communication with students

Sally Perkins has a passion for School Improvement and she especially loves developing Leadership and Management in schools. Sally is an expert in governance, safeguarding, attachment and Looked after Children (LAC) & Previously Looked after Children (PLAC).

Focus:

  • In the morning the course will cover the roles and responsibilities of the designated teacher and all other staff & key stakeholders relating to LAC & PLAC.
  • The afternoon will be an introduction and understanding of attachment and some strategies to support in your settings.

A day focusing on key elements that leads to successful classroom practice.

Providing a toolkit of knowledge, approaches and techniques to support delivery in the classroom for Cover Supervisors & HTLAs.

  1. Communication skills - understanding communication pie.
  2. Classroom routines and managing behaviour.
  3. Understanding the principles of cognitive architecture; how pupils learn.
  4. Effective questioning techniques in the classroom.
  5. Engaging students in the classroom.
