English as Additional Language (EAL) How to support secondary students

This training is facilitated by Emilia Ratcliffe / Slaw Bejm

This course will provide tips and practical steps for secondary phase teachers on how to support students with English as an additional Language. The training will focus on;

  • EAL Awareness- a short lesson in a language unknown to participants followed by a group discussion to demonstrate how new EAL arrivals may feel in the classroom. Looking at strategies to increase students’ chances of accessing lessons.
  • EAL Toolkit. How to get it right?- what EAL teaching is about- stats, barriers, elements of differentiation, examples of EAL-friendly resources and teaching strategies, EAL assessment, practical task (teachers to make a sample unit of work EAL-friendly). 

 

The workshop will cover EAL students of all nationalities with a particular focus on Ukrainian students.

No more than 18 participants to enable all, to actively engage with the practical tasks.
