After being crowned undefeated winners of the County plate earlier in the year, our Year 8 netballers made their way to Oundle knowing they had a tough day ahead of them.
In true style they showed what wonderful team spirit has developed over the last 18 months demonstrating some beautiful netball and truly selfless play throughout the court.
Sponne were placed into a very tough group with Oundle, Wellingborough and Campion, with Campion being their only victory of the day. Finally finishing 3rd in their group they are taking home a wealth of knowledge and experience. Well done girls you did yourselves proud.

U14 Boys clinch late equaliser at EWS in District League Football

On 14th March, our under 14 boys travelled to EWS for a district league football fixture, with a depleted squad of only eleven players.  We dominated the first half, with Tom Earnshaw pulling the strings from centre midfield, and centre halves Cristiano Primus and Max Jordan proving to be a hard  partnership to break down.  Much of the attacking play came out on the wing; goals from Charlie Wood x2 and Ethan Shelby.  EWS managed to score on the stroke of half time, as they manged to break through the Sponne defence for the first time.

World Book Day went ahead on Thursday 1st March – despite the snow!

Many students from Years 7, 8 and 9 made a fantastic effort with their book character costumes.  Staff also took part; with the English Department dressing as characters from Roald Dahl books; Drama as Alice in Wonderland and the Queen of Hearts; History as Mr and Mrs Potato Head, and the LRC staff were Roald Dahl’s witches.

Sponne School were due to host the U12 (year 7) Northants County Netball Plate last week on Wednesday 28th February, however due to the extremely cold weather and the onset of snow unfortunately the tournament was cancelled. The plate competition acts as a qualifying tournament for the County Cup with winner and runner up teams being invited to attend the Cup. On this occasion all teams entered into the plate were therefore invited to attend the County Cup.

Sponne girls crowned Champions for the second year
On Tuesday 20th February Sponne took combined Yr 7 and Yr 8 teams to the County Sportshall athletics Championships which were held at Kettering leisure village. In Sportshall athletics, the athletes take part in a variety of running, throwing and jumping events inside a sportshall.

Year 8/9 Boys were tournament winners on Wednesday 21st Feb. Despite the freezing temperatures the team won both games without conceding a goal. Results were 5-0 against Campion and 2-0 against CCS. Congratulations to Ben Clarke, James Evans, Will Evans, George Rimmer, Ned Black (C), Flynn Sekban and Lachlan Glen.

Tuesday 20th February we took 8 Netballers from Year 8 to the U13 County Plate Tournament at Kettering Buccleuch Academy. There were 8 schools entered which meant 7 games with only one break over the whole tournament. The girl’s first game was against Moulton, during which Francesca O’Dell demonstrated some fantastic attacking play and feeds into the circle finishing 5-0 to Sponne. 2 of the next 3 games finished 6-0 to Sponne against Bishop Stopford, The Duston School and Malcom Arnold Academy with impressive centre court play from Poppy Waldron, Alex Hall and Lilly Webb.

On Tuesday 6th February we took 12 year 9 girls to competed in their District Hockey tournament. Despite the very cold weather all girls played great. No wins this week, but the girls worked really hard to concede only 3 goals across the whole tournament. Well done to Claire Parton on her debut. Well done Girls. Mrs Stone.

NMPAT - Head of Towcester Centre

NMPAT have recently run a joint project between the three NMPAT Saturday Centres of Towcester, Queens Cross and Brackley in conjunction with the City of London Sinfonia to give the students at those centres an experience of playing in a 100+ piece orchestra using some of the BBC Ten Pieces and also having a composition created from their ideas gathered in a workshop in December. The fruits of our labours were shown in a concert on Saturday at the High School in Northampton. One of Ben’s composition ideas formed a main theme in the specially composed piece!

The Sponne pupils involved were:

Ben Maxwell - leading the cellos
Lily Isaac
Faith Hawkins
Cerys Sampson
