A wonderful afternoon of cricket where over 80 year 5&6’s came to Sponne to play in a kwik cricket competition.  10 teams of 8 players step out into the sunshine to take up the battle at the crease.  The willow struck leather (well plastic struck rubber!!) and wickets fell, children ran, clapped, cheered and laughed.  There were some spectacular skills on display from such youngster, skills  even Freddie Flintoff would have been proud of...we only lost 7 balls in the rough (and possibly over the fence!!)

Congratulations to Georgia Corcoran on her selection for the U16 East Midlands Water Polo Squad. Georgia will compete down in Somerset in her first regional tournament in July this year where the East midlands squad will face other regional teams from across the country. Well Done Georgia.

Last week 16 Young Leaders from Sponne took park in a training event in preparation for the forthcoming Mini Reds Tennis Tournament on Thursday 10 May 2018.

Schools from the Sponne cluster bought along their budding tennis stars to compete in a round robin style tournament, the winner on the day would be crowned cluster champions and compete in the district final on 20th June.

On Wednesday 25th April the Design and Technology department were proud to host the regional finals for the Rotary Young Designer competition.

The six entrants in the GCSE category were Jasmine Bond, Tom Cartwright, Maddie Chapman, Luke Harris, Jacob Moreton and Millie Rees. In the A level category we saw work from Beanna Field, Emi Johnson, Becca Kimber, Beth Loosely and Freya Robinson.

The 2017/18 Netball season was an exciting one for Sponne students Poppy Waldron (8RB) and Madeline Pritchett (8RB) who represented Northants U13 in the Regional Performance League.

The girls were part of a very successful season for Northants, beating teams from Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire which earnt them a place in the final at Loughborough University.

The English Schools Athletics Cup is a national athletics event open to all schools. In this event schools compete in Junior (Yr7/8) and Inter (Yr9/10) competitions and each athlete must compete in both a track and a field event and points are awarded for specific distances or times - a true reflection on the strength of the team. On Friday Sponne competed in the initial County round and results were outstanding.

On Wednesday May 11th the school took part in the annual South Northants  district athletics Championships. There were two age groups – firstly U15 (Yr 8 and 9) and U17 (Yr 10 and 11). The U17 event unfortunately clashed with the Yr11 leavers assembly – hence it was left to the Yr 10 athletes to lead the way. In the girls event, Sponne finished a very good third position of the 10 schools with victories for both Claudia Read and Sophie Jeffery in the 100m and javelin respectively – this was Sophie’s first ever athletics competition !!

Harvey Taylor was the youngest ever referee to officiate at a County Cup Final in our area over the weekend. Well done Harvey!

In her solo performance she came first, her acro duet they came first which also came first overall in her age category.  In the group dances they had two 3rd places, one 4th and a 1st.

With her acro duet and the group dance “Fabulous” they made it through to the grand final along with 14 other finalists.  The duet came in a brilliant 7th place and the group dance came first.  She came away with 3 trophies and 9 medals overall with many more trophies for the group dances.
