Hello and a Warm Welcome to all our prospective new students and families!

If you’re in Year 6 and thinking about joining Sponne School, we’re so excited you’re here! Moving from primary school to secondary school is a big step, but it’s also the start of a new chapter and the start of something amazing. We are here to help you every step of the way. Whether you’re feeling excited, nervous, curious, or a bit of everything, this is all completely normal and we have lots of support in place to help you with the change.

At Sponne School you’ll discover new subjects, make new friends, be offered a host of enhancement activities, become more independent and be part of a school that will support and inspire you every step of the way.

What Happens Next?

Year 6 Open Evening

For 2027 entry, we will be hosting a Year 6 Open Evening in September/October 2026. This will be advertised on our website and social media and through the linked primary schools.

During the evening you will be taken on a tour of our school and of our subjects by a 6th form guide. They will be able to answer all your questions about what life is like here at Sponne School as a student and our subject teachers will give you a taste of what you will experience in their subjects during your time at Sponne School. There is also an opportunity for parents to book an appointment with our SEN Co to discuss how Sponne School could support any special educational needs.

Both the Year 6 Open Evening Tour and the SEN Co appointment need to be pre-booked. Links to book will be provided below when the evening is confirmed.

Applying for a secondary school place – September 2026

The closing date for applications for a secondary school place in September 2026 was 31 October 2025.

You can still make a late application. These are processed from April 2026 onwards. Applications should be made here: www.westnorthants.gov.uk/school-admissions-and-appeals

Applying for a secondary school place – September 2027

If your child lives in West Northamptonshire, from mid September 2026 (exact date will be confirmed by West Northants Council nearer the time) the application portal will be open to make applications for a:

Secondary school place for September 2027 if your child has their 11th birthday between 1 September 2026 and 31 August 2027
Upper school (year 9) or UTC place (year 10) in another country for September 2027.

The closing date for applications will be around the end of October 2026 (exact date will be confirmed by West Northants Council nearer the time).

Year 6 Induction Days

Once you have been offered a place at Sponne School, we will be in touch to let you know about the next steps and some key information. Our team will visit you at your primary school during the summer term to talk to you about Sponne School, answer any questions you have and also to meet with your teachers. We will then invite you to your Year 6 Induction Days.

The Year 6 Induction Days will be in July 2027. You will spend the two days with us here at Sponne School when you will meet your form tutor and the rest of your form group and, together with your form, experience a range of different subjects, to give you a feel for what life is like here at Sponne School.
