We have been asked by the local police to pass on a message to all parents and carers. Please do not park outside the Police Station in Towcester and leave your car even for a very short period of time. There are emergency vehicles coming and going from that site at all times and absolutely no parking is allowed. Parents are able to pull into the layby in front of the Police Station to drop off, providing you are purely dropping off and then moving on again immediately. You are kindly asked not to park and wait there.

We kindly ask you to refrain from parking on the zig zag markings by the pedestrian crossing outside of school or parking across our neighbours driveways.

Thank you for your co-operation.

On 10th May, Sponne School took part in the annual English Schools Athletics Cup. This event is open to all schools and each athlete needs to compete in a track and a field event with points being awarded for each performance with the school scoring the highest combined total winning. The age groups are Junior (Yr7 and Yr8) and Intermediate (Yr 9 and Yr10)

The Junior boys finished in an outstanding 2nd place, just 9 points behind winners NSB. There were outstanding individual performances with Jeremy winning both the discus and the 300m. The inter boys also finished in 2nd place in the County, with outstanding performances coming from Lachlan in the hurdles, Jack in the 300m and Alfie in the high jump.

The Junior girls faired even better with the 12 girls comfortably winning the competition with Hayley producing some magnificent performances in both the javelin and the hurdles

The Inter girls were the stand out performers, however, with numerous first place finishes and high class performances. Leading scorers were Georgia in the 300m and triple jump, Katy in the 300m, Emily in the 800m, Anna in the shot, Sophie in the javelin and Mia in the hurdles.

The first three teams will now qualify for the Midlands B final but because their points score was so high, the Inter girls team will now qualify for the Midlands A final, competing against the 7 other strongest schools in the entire Midlands area. These events will take place in June.

Well done to all those that took part and good luck for the Midlands finals !!

Mr Gercs

It was our 2nd attempt at this Tournament and it consisted of 2 competitions, 12 teams, 30 leaders, persistent threat of storms…but the sun came out and shone for us (although we nearly lost the gazebo to the wind!)

What a fantastic afternoon of netball: running, jumping, twisting, turning, rebounds, whistles, goals!  The children seemed to really enjoy their games and they were played with skill, spirit and fair play.  The leaders did an awesome job of warming them up, giving them coaching points and cheering them on. Well done and thank you to our 2 Y7 girls teams who played in the friendly competition to ensure everyone had lots of games and managed brilliantly by Phoebe, Lucy & Alex.

All 12 umpires did a brilliant job of being firm but fair “the standard of umpiring was excellent and they did such a good job, judging it just right between allowing the game to flow and pulling up the fouls.”

Congratulations to Nicholas Hawksmoor who won both the friendly tournament and the qualifying competition.  They will now represent our Cluster in the District Finals being hosted by Sponne in June.

On Wednesday 8th May we held a Level 2 Archery competition for years 3&4. The leaders had to do some training before they arrived, that consisted of how to score the different events, show the children how to do the events and how to set up the different events. We partnered up and had a go ourselves.  It was harder than it looked but loads of fun!

The year 3&4s arrived at about 4pm and were very excited.  All the schools went on an event and had a practise until it was time to start the competition. When it started David told them how each event was going to work, he then split them all up into groups. Each school went one at a time and did their best to score as many points as they could.  When they had all their arrows, they sat down and watched the other schools.

At the end of the evening the schools were called up one by one to collect their certificates to take back to their school. The winners were Staverton Primary School and have qualified for the Level 3 School Games Competition on the 11th July at Moulton College.

The U12s rugby team annual tour was to Bideford in Devon this year. Numerous teams from around the country attended, with games being held over two days. The Tows squad played consistently well, knocking out the opposition in the fight to win the tournament cup. Towcestrian’s won all of their games, and played the final against a very strong Chipping Norton team in the final on Sunday. It was a very close game, but the boys showed some real strength and character and got the win. Congratulations!

The U12s team includes a large number of Year 7 boys from Sponne including Jamie H, Jamie B, George L, James B, Jay, Gareth and Jed, to name a few.

Spring Concert
The Sponne Spring Concert was held on 2nd April in the school hall featuring all our extra curricular music groups. They played to a packed audience and provided a fantastic evening of musical entertainment. Thank you to all those who attended, and to all the musicians who took part.

Music for Youth Festival
Sponnaissance and our String Chamber ensembles took part in the Music for Youth festival in Milton Keynes on the 3rd April

After a long wait for the Dynamik National School Finals to be announced, our 5am departure soon arrived. Making our way to Manchester with 10 very excited girls and some even more excited parents we soon arrived at the National Basketball Performance Centre ready for the challenge ahead.

In our first game we were up against St. John Fisher School where we won 40-16. The girls put on an amazing attacking display and were clinical throughout all four quarters. We conceded 16 points which the girls were disappointed in. They planned on putting that right in the coming games.

Amie Reynolds was selected to play for the U14’s county girls’ tennis team over the May Day bank holiday weekend. She was so pleased after not being able to play for months and months due to a back injury. They played for 3 days at Stourbridge in the 12 Counties tournament. They lost to Wales, lost in a close shoot out with Staffordshire and beat Shropshire!! Not bad for a small county!

Below is a picture of Amie and her team and the team coach!

She is registered with the Pets as Therapy charity and her visits are linked to the ‘Read2Dogs’ scheme and general wellbeing.

Another fantastic performance by the Year 8 Netballers in their final game of the season. They remain undefeated in the district and at County Plate Level which is a huge achievement. As a team they have developed a solid relationship with each other and continue to grow as players, their sense of team is second to none.

Well done girls you should be very proud.
