After drawing against each other in the qualifier for the English Schools Chess Championship, Sponne's chess team once again faced Stowe's best in the regional stage of the competition. Sponne hosted the event and the match ultimately came down to the last few seconds of the very last game - the final score being 6.5 points to 5.5. points in Stowe's favour.
The players were disappointed not to go one stage further this year but they should be commended for a very high standard of play throughout.
