For Lewis, the achievement carried an added significance. He spent all his childhood on the sidelines watching his father, four-time BTCC Champion and BMW racing driver Colin Turkington, compete. Lewis always dreamed of one day having the opportunity to race himself.
For Lewis, to achieve his first podium at Silverstone, with his dad there to watch and others who have watched him grow up, made the moment particularly special.
Speaking immediately after the race to the BRSCC Live stream, Lewis described the achievement as “the best day of my life”, while expressing his gratitude to everyone who had helped him reach the grid and supported his racing journey.
The result also made Lewis one of the most popular podium finishers of the season, with an outpouring of support from fellow competitors, family, friends and fans celebrating the breakthrough moment.
“It was honestly the best day of my life. I’m so grateful to everyone who has helped me get here and given me the opportunity to be on the grid. To get my first podium at Silverstone, my home circuit, with my dad there watching and supporting me, is something I’ll never forget. It’s been a huge journey to get here, and I’ve never stopped working at my progression. This moment has made all the hard work worth it and I am so happy. This really is only the beginning for me and I can promise you I will work harder than anyone ever has done to achieve my dreams.”
