Sixth Form Post 18 Day

Sixth Form - Post 18 Day - Thursday 5th June

We are always encouraging our students to DREAM - BELIEVE - ACHIEVE and Term 5 and 6 for Year 12, specifically, has been focused on 'choices and thinking ahead'.  Students are encouraged and supported to think about what plans and dreams they wish to explore once they leave Sixth form (post 18).  We invited various speakers in to talk to the year group; lots of information was shared on their various choices, so they can make the right decision for them personally.  The day was finished off with students passionately researching and exploring the options they are interested in.

A special thank you to all our guest speakers:

  • John Allen, Bluewire Hub - Being an entrepreneur
  • Sheffield Hallam - What is a degree apprenticeship?
  • Rachel Fox (Alumni) - My degree apprenticeship
  • University of Lincoln - Choosing the right degree and making the most of open days
  • University of Northampton - Student finance and student life
  • Andrew Miller, Lincoln College Oxford - Applying to Oxford or Cambridge
  • Richard Poole, Unison - World of work
  • Gap Year 360 - Gap Years
  • University of Lincoln - Personal statements and UCAS process

Performance Poet - Spoz Visit

On Tuesday 3rd June, we enjoyed a visit from performance poet, Spoz, who delivered a poetry workshop to our year 9 students. The students loved listening to Spoz perform his own poetry and then enthusiastically wrote and shared their own love poems. Spoz even commented on how wonderful our students are; well done, year 9.

On Wednesday 7th May we had our final 'mini' careers fair of the year. This one focused on 'caring professions' and we had over 20 businesses and universities for our students to interact with. We are particularly grateful to the local businesses who took time out of their day to talk with our students - Ruby Hook Hairdressers, The Beauty Works, R. Simpson Physiotherapy, Towcester Leisure Centre, Towcester Vets and Happy Hounds.

If you think you would like to be involved in a future careers event, do get in touch with us: careers@sponne.org.uk We are always happy to accommodate visits by employers and would love to hear from any alumni.

Youth Advisory Council

Sponne School would like to say a huge congratulations to our two Year 10 head prefects, Ellie & Imogen, for not only being elected into the Youth Advisory Council and Youth Parliament respectively but also for their tremendous campaign efforts within school and out of school.

Both students wrote their manifestos on incredibly important topics, Ellie wrote her’s on teenage pregancy awareness and prevention and Imogen wrote her’s on suicide prevention and increased funding into school councilling.

Going forward they will be spreading awareness and creating change in areas like knife crime prevention, discrimination, young female safety, poverty and much more, and as a school we are here to support them.

We are very proud of Imogen and Ellie and hope that their representation will aid young people in the rural areas of Northamptonshire!
